Williamson to captain in T20 as Bredon McCullum was rested

New Zealand named their rising young batsman, Kane Williamson as stand-in captain for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Pakistan. They have allowed Brendon McCullum to take a break. Chief selector Edgar said that McCullum, Tim Southee and Trent Boult would return to New Zealand to prepare for a series against Sri Lanka which starts on December 26. "Now, managing players' workloads will be an important part of our summer's plans and this is simply an example of that," he said. He also said that the decision was taken before last week's death of Australian batsman Phillip Hughes, which shocked the entire team. McCullum scored a double century and led New Zealand to 80-run victory over Pakistan to level Test series by 1-1 on Sunday.
