Team Profiles

Australia:

The most efficient team of the ICC Cricket World Cup is team Australia winning the cup for four times (1987, 1999, 2003, and 2007) with three consecutive world cup wins from 1999 to 2007. It holds a record of entering the World Cup for six times (1975, 1987, 1996, 1999, 2003, and 2007) in nine World Cups happened so far and record wins of 29 consecutive matches in the World Cup without any loss since 23 May 1999. The team is being led by an amazing and successful captain ‘Ricky Ponting’ who is the main key for success of the team at every tournament. In spite of missing the four biggies of the team Matthew Hayden, Adam Gilchrist, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne the team is still looking strong with a lot of young talent including Shane Watson, Mike Hussey and Mitchell Johnson. It is sure one of the hot favorites in the tournament for lifting its fifth World Cup.

India:

Cricket has become a religion in India and people are developing more interest towards the game year by year. The cricket fever started to grow in India right from the win of ICC Cricket World Cup in 1983, the only World Cup for India till date. Though it reached the finals in 2003 World Cup it could not defeat the mighty Australians. Now the team is full of young talent with successful captain MS Dhoni leading the team, who has already brought us the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in 2007. With strong batting line-up including Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, bowling attack including Zaheer Khan, Praveen Kumar and Harbhajan Singh the number one test side are also the favorites of the tournament to lift their second ever World Cup title at home.

Sri Lanka:

Sri Lanka was not one of the test playing nations by the time Cricket World Cup has started. It gained glory in the tournament in 1996 when it won its first ever World Cup under the captaincy of Arjuna Ranatunga against Australia. It again reached the finals in 2007 under the captaincy of Mahela Jayawardena but lost to Australia. No it is co-hosting the World Cup along with India and Bangladesh. The Sri Lankan side has got a lot of talent with players like Tillakeratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardena, Nuwan Kulasekara, Muttiah Muralidaran and Ajantha Mendis. Sri Lanka is also in the race of winning the title once again.

England:

England, the inventors of cricket has not even one ICC Cricket World Cup to its credit, though it has reached to the finals three times (1979, 1987 and 1992) but could not go further to win the title, since 1992 it has even not reached the semi-final of the tournament. But, with the recent win of ICC Twenty20 World Cup the team has proved itself and is looking stronger with strong middle order with Paul Collingwood, Eoin Morgan, Kevin Pietersen and a good bowling attack with James Anderson and Graeme Swann. With this England is sure one of the hot favorites in the tournament for lifting its
first ever ICC Cricket World Cup.

South Africa:

The team has not won even one ICC Cricket World Cup since its participation in the tournament from 1992. The team has only managed to reach the semi-finals in 2007 where it got defeated by Australia. The team is being led by Graeme Smith and is very much talented with players like Jacques Kallis, Herschelle Gibbs, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn. With lot of talent available South Africa are one of the favorites in the World Cup and is in the race of lifting its first ICC Cricket World Cup.

Pakistan:

Pakistan won its first and only World Cup in 1992 defeating England in the final with 22 runs with the help of skipper Imran Khan. From 1992, the team has managed only to reach one final of the World Cup in 1999 getting defeated by the Australians in the final. But the team has done well in all the ICC Twenty20 World Cups as it reached all the finals since 2007 and are on the winning side of 2009 ICC Twenty20 World Cup. The team now is good going with lot of young talent including AKmal brothers, Umar Gul, Shahid Afridi and a good bowling attack. It is also one of the favorites and will try to take home their second World Cup.

West Indies:

West Indies has lost the World Cup glory since its loss against India in the final match in 1983. From then the first World Cup winning country has not even made it into the final of the tournament. The present team has to look to the great team at that time for inspiration who have won the first and second Cricket World Cups (1975 and 1979). The present team led by Chris Gayle has a lot of good players like Ramnaresh Sarwan, Darren Sammy, Pollard, Dwayne Bravo and Shivnarine Chanderpaul will try to regain their World Cup glory.

New Zealand:

Unlucky or what it is very bad of a team reaching the semi-finals in five tournaments (1975, 1979, 1992, 1999 and 2007) and not even winning at least one of them. New Zealand will be very keen in lifting the World Cup this time after too many loses in spite of reaching the semi-finals five times in nine tournaments. The team is presently being led by Daniel Vettori with a lot of good players like Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum, Kyle Mills, Shane Bond and will be with a urge to win the title this time.

Bangladesh:

Bangladesh entered into the tournament in 1999 and surprisingly defeated Pakistan by 62 runs in 1999 and the greatest moment is when they defeated India at ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 which sent India out of the tournament. Bangladesh is one of he hosts of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. The side has some good talented players in form of Captain Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mashrafe Mortaza. The team will definitely try to improve its World Cup records.

Zimbabwe:

Zimbabwe is a team known to upset the other teams in the ICC Cricket World Cup as the results of defeating Australia in 1983, England in 1992, India and South Africa in 1999 proves it. The stunner was when Zimbabwe defeated Australia in the 2007 ICC Twenty20 World Cup. The team depends on mainly Charles Coventry, Tatenda Taibu and Ray Price for their victories.

Canada:

In the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2009 held in South Africa, Canada finished runners-up and got qualified for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. The team first participated in the tournament in 1979 and in 2003 it defeated Bangladesh by 60 runs which brought some glory to the team. John Davison broke a record in the tournament for the fastest century in Cricket World Cup history. So the team has a good talent in form of Umar Bhatti, Sunil Dhaniram, Ashih Bagi (wicket-keeper) and Rizwan Cheema.

Ireland:

Ireland is the top Associate team in the wold as it came out as the winning side in 2009 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in South Africa defeating Canada in the final by nine wickets and got qualified to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. It also participated in the 2007 World Cup and defeated Pakistan and Bangladesh to promote to the next stage. The key players of the team will be Niall O'Brien, William Porterfield, Boyd Rankin and Trent Johnson.

Kenya:

Kenya finished third in the qualifying event in South Africa 2009 and got qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. This team earlier participated in many of the World Cups. It defeated West Indies in 1996 by 73 runs and the team shocked the entire cricketing world when it reached the semi finals of ICC Cricket World Cup 2003 defeating Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, New Zealand (match forfeited) and Bangladesh. The team will mainly rely upon Alex Obanda, Collins Obuya, Steve Tikolo, Peter Ongondo, Lameck Ngoche and Hiren Varaiya for their wins.

Netherlands:

Netherlands had already participated in the tournament earlier in 1996, 2003 and 2007. It finished fourth in the ICC 2009 World Cup Qualifier in South Africa to get place in ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. It shocked England in 2009 ICC Twenty20 World Cup by winning with four wickets. The Netherlands team will be led by Peter Borren and the team will mainly depend on Bas Zuiderent, Alexei Kervezee, Ryan ten Doeschate and Edgar Schiferli for putting up a good show.

Whatever may be the records of teams or players, cricket is a game of uncertainties as they say anything is possible in cricket anyone can win the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup independent of the stats.
